To-Do

Well I think it’s time I learn a framework. Last week I dove into Ruby on Rails and I really liked how simply the code structure was - not to mention scaffolding and MVC! The problem was I wanted something that did everything Ruby on Rails did but did not require me to learn another language, which would be Ruby in this case.

I’ve heard of CakePHP, Code Igniter and Symphony and I figured if they’ve all got what I need and I woudn’t need to learn another language. With a more thorough look into all of those frameworks I came out choosing CakePHP. Why? Well it might have had to do with the fact that Jonathan Snook uses CakePHP to power his popular web development blog, snook.ca and he lives in the same city as me, which is Ottawa. This way if I hit a wall in CakePHP at 1 in the morning, I can just throw little rocks at his window to try to get him to come down and help me. Another reason is that it seems to have a well established community. I think that with PHP itself having a largely supported community, the future of this PHP framework looks like it will fit in JUSSSTTT right with me.

So there we go, no need to learn another language (although it would only benefit me in the long run if I did).

I’ve done some of the CakePHP tutorials and I should be well on my way in a few months. I’ll keep ya’ll posted! (yeah that’s right, I said ya’ll)

Feel free to put in your 2 cents. I need cash.

Code must be put in between <code> </code> tags or there will be no soup for you.
